The Market Place has a confidentiality policy. This means we will not normally give out information about you to anyone outside the project, without your agreement.
There may however be times when we need to share information within The Market Place. And if you are under 18, there may be times we need to share information which may include if you have been to your sessions. See ‘Limit to confidentiality’ below.
The only time we would give out information about you without your agreement is if you, or anyone else, are in danger or at risk of significant harm.
Wherever possible we would always try to discuss it with you before giving out any information.
If you are not sure about any of this or would like to know more about it please ask one of the workers.
Limit to confidentiality
For under 18’s accessing appointments during school time
If you are coming to The Market Place for an appointment for one to one support or group work and you are under 18, there may be occasions when we would inform either a) your school or b) parent/carer whether you are attending your appointments or not.
a) If you have been given permission by someone at school to come out of school for an appointment at The Market Place, and your school contacts us because they are concerned about whether you are attending your appointments or not, then we would confirm whether you are attending your appointments. We would not usually contact the school for any reason except those covered in the Confidentiality Policy.
b) If your parent/carer contacts The Market Place to check if you have attended your session, we may also need to tell them.
For 11 and 12 year olds only: If your appointment is Monday-Friday during the school term and is at 3pm or earlier then we would ALWAYS contact your parent/carer to let them know that you missed or cancelled your session. We may also do this for appointments outside the school day if this was agreed at your Intro Session.
If this raises any concerns about your safety, please let your worker know [some people do not inform their parents/carers that they attend The Market Place]
Please note:
If we have concerns about your safety out of school time we may need to confirm your attendance to parents, carers, school staff and other professionals
If this raises any concerns about your safety, please let your worker know [some people do not inform their parents/carers that they attend The Market Place]
In addition:
If we confirm your attendance we would not share any information about what you have talked about in your sessions, only whether you have been coming to the sessions or not.
We would only share other information if you or anyone else was in danger or at risk of significant harm – please see confidentiality statement.
There may be other factors such as your age and ability that may impact on what information we share and who we share it with.
If you are unclear about this then please ask a member of staff.
