One to one counselling session

Volunteering and Student Placements at The Market Place

We believe that young people have the right to feel safe and secure in their lives, be treated with respect and to feel good about themselves. The Market Place is a charity that offers them space, time and information to enable this.

We offer career opportunities in youth work and counselling, through a drop in service and regular one to one sessions.

Volunteer Counsellors

Volunteer counsellors contribute to providing a quality counselling service to young people. All counsellors are either fully qualified or currently attending a Counselling Diploma course, and work within The Market Place policies as well as BACP’s Ethical Framework for Good Practice.

There is a full recruitment process involved in becoming a volunteer counsellor and an enhanced DBS check. A minimum commitment of two hours a week is asked for, for an initial period of six months. Counsellors are required to attend monthly in-house Group Supervision, as well as external supervision required by their course/BACP.

Volunteer Youth Workers

Volunteer youth workers work within the Drop-In space offering information and support to young people with any issue.

A volunteer youth worker must be available to work a regular Drop-In session and we ask for a commitment of at least 6 months.

There is a full recruitment process involved in becoming a volunteer youth worker and an enhanced DBS check.

All volunteer youth workers will receive a full induction, continued training and be required to attend regular supervision and some meetings.

Due to resource constraints we cannot always recruit new volunteers – please phone and speak to the Youth Work manager to find out the latest news about recruitment of Youth Work volunteers.
