Volunteering

The Market Place currently takes on two types of volunteers

Volunteer Youth Workers

The purpose of this work is to provide effective information and support to young people within the policies of the Market Place for a minimum of one five hour session a week. We ask for volunteers to offer an initial commitment of six months, which will be reviewed after one month. Volunteering in the Drop-In is about enabling and assisting young people to find information and access our support in a way that encourages independence and autonomy.

A volunteer must be able to offer information and support young people in a non-judgemental and non-directive manner.

You need to be a team player who is also able to work on your own initiative. You will receive a full induction and continued training, travel expenses, and experience of working in a busy, vibrant, recognised, city centre youth project. You will be required to attend regular supervision and Drop-In meetings.

Volunteer Counsellors

Volunteer counsellors contribute to providing a quality counselling service to young people. All counsellors are either fully qualified or currently attending a Counselling Diploma course, and work within The Market Place policies as well as BACP’s Ethical Framework for Good Practice.

A minimum commitment of two hours a week is asked for, for an initial period of six months. Counsellors are required to attend monthly in-house Group Supervision, as well as external supervision required by their course/BACP.

If you are interested in a counselling placement at The Market Place, please phone and speak to the Counselling Manager.
