At the Market Place we offer free pregnancy testing to young people aged 13-25. This takes place between 1-5p.m. on a Thursday only and the last test is at 4.30p.m. This service is free and confidential.
You need to wait 2/3 weeks after you have had unprotected sex before you take a pregnancy test because a test done sooner may not show a pregnancy. If you have a test done earlier you will have to have another one to make sure you are not pregnant.
Each test takes about half an hour and will be done in a private room. There will be a chance to ask questions and gain further support if you want it. You will be asked some questions but you only have to answer them if you’re happy to.
If you have recently had a split condom or you have had unprotected sex the Emergency Contraceptive Pill can be taken within 72 hours to prevent pregnancy, although the sooner you take it the more effective it is. You can get the Emergency Contraceptive Pill from your doctor or your nearest Contraception and Sexual Health Clinic. The local one for young people is Citywise (0113 295 4820) based in the city centre at No 1 Eastgate. This service is for young people only and is free and confidential.
If you are not able to come to The Market Place on a Thursday you can have a pregnancy test at the following places:
Citywise No1 Eastgate Mon 9-11.30a.m.
Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9-5
Wednesday 1-5p.m.
Connexions Eastgate Tuesday-Friday 12noon-4.30p.m.
(ask to speak to a youth worker)
Both Citywise and Connexions are services for young people only and are free and confidential.
