C-Card

As part of the C-Card Scheme the Drop-In gives out free condoms. Once you have joined the C-Card scheme you can use your C-Card at loads of different places throughout the city and get lots of free condoms!

We give out 6 condoms at a time and we have a great selection from plain to flavoured or textured such as ribbed or dotted – so you can have fun choosing the ones you want!

We also give out lubricant with your condoms. Lubricant is a slippery fluid that when can make sex more comfortable and fun! You need to put a little bit of lubricant on the outside of the condom before you start having sex. The lubricant we give out is water-based because oil-based lubricants can damage a condom.

We also stock flavoured Dams. These are sheets of thin latex (the rubber used in making condoms), which can be used for oral sex on the vagina or anus.

Condoms are a barrier method of contraception, which means if they are used correctly they can prevent Pregnancy and the spread of Sexually Transmitted Infections. The most common reason for a condom splitting is if it hasn’t been put on properly or if there is not enough lubrication.

If you have a split condom you can use the Emergency Contraceptive Pill. This can be taken up to 72 hours after a condom has split or you have had unprotected sex, although the sooner you take it the more effective it is. You can get the Emergency Contraceptive Pill from your doctor or your nearest Contraception and Sexual Health Clinic. The local one for young people is Citywise (0113 295 4820) based in the city centre at No 1 Eastgate. This clinic is open for young people only and offers a free and confidential service.
